“Starting From Scratch” Case Study – Income Report September 2016

Welcome to the seventh of the monthly income reports for the “Starting From Scratch” niche site case study. In these monthly reports, I’ll go through the income, traffic and rankings of the case study site. Monthly reports are important, not only to let you see how the site is doing, but it helps me to improve the site by analyzing the results. Traffic & Visitors – September 2016
Unique Visitors: 145
Bounce Rate: 21%
Unique Visitors Sent To Amazon: 51
Conversion Rate to Amazon: 35%
We’re starting to see a steady stream of visitors every day to the site everyday. The site has spent a few days during the month on the first page for some of the smaller target keywords from the expansion content, which has started to help increase the number of visitors and therefore conversions to Amazon.
I expect traffic in October to pick up even more, as the site gets first page rankings for more terms and starts to solidify its position on the first page.

Average Visitor Value: $0.30
Average Item Commission: $1.93
We hit our target of $20-$50 worth of commissions this month as the site started to get tested on the first page of Google for some of its target keywords. With rankings improving towards the end month of September, we should see higher earnings in October.
This month we were just 44 cents shy of covering our operating expenses for the site. I expect the sales for October to double due to improved rankings – hopefully between $50-$100 worth of commissions.

Rankings have improved nicely during September for the site. We saw it getting tested on the first page during the middle of the month for some of the smaller terms from the expansion, and then at September 30 we could see that more keywords were finding their way into the first page again.
For October, I would hope to see most of the terms in the top 10, as the site begins to demonstrate that it can provide a positive visitor experience through low bounce rates and strong time on site metrics.
